Learning Technologies
The mission of Learning Technologies is to provide a teaching and learning infrastructure that meets modern needs for integrating technology across content areas. Drawing on expertise in both technology and pedagogy, the department seeks to create and support robust environments for learning, discovery, and engagement for faculty and students that are grounded in sound principles of learning and in a thorough knowledge of integrating technology for effectiveness and efficiency of effort.
Scholar
Scholar is Virginia Tech's implementation of Sakai, which is currently being developed and used at MIT, Stanford, Michigan and Indiana and many other universities. Scholar enables innovative ways to teach students, assess learning, and collaborate with users at Virginia Tech and beyond. With its capabilities of project site creation and resource sharing, Scholar consolidates the functions of a course management system like Blackboard with research and collaboration features, all coupled with enhanced ePortfolio capabilities.

Faculty Development Institute (FDI)

Online Services for Retirees

Antivirus software

Software Assistance & Education Center
The Software Assistance & Education Center (SAEC) is a service jointly provided by 4Help/University Computing Support and Information Technology Acquisitions. Its mission is to provide students, faculty, and staff with software installation assistance as well as providing regularly-scheduled tutorial help sessions on common issues such as data backup, system reformatting, virus removal, and wireless network configuration.
Services During Winter Closing
In 2011, Virginia Tech implemented the new winter closing schedule approved by the Board of Visitors. This year, the university will close from Monday, December 24, 2012 through Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Some Information Technology services will be impacted by this closing.
Normal Service
These services will be running with personnel on call to fix outages.
