Datacenter storage maintenance

On July 28, 2012 and July 29, 2012, the Virginia Tech datacenter will undergo major system upgrades.  Many services will be unavailable during this time period, including e-mail, Exchange, and Banner. Click 'View' for more.

On Saturday, July 28, the firmware on both the Fiber Channel storage network and the Enterprise EMC VNX storage system will be upgraded. The Enterprise EMC VNX storage system maintenance is scheduled for 7 a.m. through 5 p.m., on July 28th and will interrupt:

• Banner production database
• Banner applications:
• Internet Native Banner
• Self-Service Banner (aka Hokiespa)
• Banner Workflow
• Travel & Expense Effort Reporting
• Learning Technologies Applications
• Scholar
• FDI Registration
• SPOT Survey
• iTunesU
• Network Backup Service including:
• TSM 
• NetWorker

The Fiber Channel storage network effort will interrupt the following services between 8am and noon:

• Exchange
• Junk Mail Manager

On Sunday, July 29, the central NetApp storage systems known as NAS, storage.vt.edu, skipper.cc.vt.edu, minnow.cc.vt.edu and dominion will be unavailable from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to increase its storage and upgrade the controllers.

The following services that rely on the NetApp will be down:

• Exchange
• Junk Mail Manager
• Mystore and Mystore2  - personal shares for Windows and Mac users- some use this for Windows roaming profiles
• Departmental shares on the NAS
• VT Confluence
• JIRA
• Nolij
• Banner Document Management System/Application Xtender
• Learning Technologies Applications
• Scholar
• FDI Registration
• SPOT Survey
• iTunesU    
•  Ensemble Content Management System
• Publishing only
•  Web Hosting
• All hosted websites
• MySQL Databases associated with hosted websites
• VT Calendar (calendar.vt.edu)
• VT Survey (survey.vt.edu)
• Filebox
• All fileboxes

Note: The Virginia Tech web site (www.vt.edu), Banner INB (forms) and SSB (HokieSpa) will NOT be affected by this maintenance.
