view historyJInitiator is a Windows-based Java Virtual Machine (JVM) developed by Oracle that runs as a plug-in for Netscape and as an ActiveX component for Internet Explorer. JInitiator allows you to run Java applets (such as Internet Native Banner, or INB) on Windows clients. JInitiator also implements JAR file caching which reduces application startup time. Please check the certification matrix to make sure your particular browser is certified with JInitiator.
In order to install JInitiator you must log on to your computer using an account with administrator or power user privileges, otherwise the installation will not be successful.
The only other time you will need to reinstall JInitiator is if a new version of JInitiator is required due to an Oracle Forms upgrade. However, Internet Explorer and Netscape will automatically detect that a new version of JInitiator is required and you will be prompted to download and install the latest version of JInitiator.
Only Internet Explorer will automatically install JInitiator on the client machine after the download process. If you are running Netscape, you will have to navigate to the previously downloaded executable file on the client machine and manually launch the executable to start the install. You will not be able to run INB until you have the correct version of JInitiator installed on your client.
