Mass Email

Mass or bulk e-mail refers to e-mail messages that are sent quickly and in large quantities. Mass e-mail can be an efficient and environmentally-friendly way to communicate. It can also overload e-mail systems and be perceived as abusive. Sending mass e-mail messages can result in the university being blacklisted by potential recipient systems, causing problems throughout the university.

The definition and perception of what constitutes large quantities of e-mail messages vary with the situation. Ordinary e-mail methods generally do not handle more than 100 recipients at one time. Standard e-mail clients such as Entourage, OS X Mail, Outlook, Webmail, or Windows Mail running on a desktop are not appropriate for sending mass mailings. For information and guidelines on sending mass email messages, refer to this resources included on this page.
