software library. A powerful full-text search engine makes it easy to find the
information you need.

Using Microsoft TechNet
TechNet gives you two powerful ways to locate the information you need. A
robust, full-text search engine displays query results in a prioritized list,
making it easy to find specific articles. You can also browse your way through
a hierarchy of topics and review selected articles. Either way, TechNet puts
the most complete Microsoft technical information resource at your fingertips.
Microsoft TechNet User Interface
All the information on the TechNet CD can be hierarchically displayed in
the Contents Pane. Information is grouped into technology and information "books" that
make it easy to locate topics of interest. As you browse, TechNet enables
you to:
- Create electronic bookmarks
- Create annotations
- Print a displayed topic by clicking on the toolbar button
- Copy and paste text and graphics
TechNet Search Engine
Microsoft TechNet employs a full-text Boolean search engine to create targeted queries that quickly locate information on a specific subject. For example, you can search for a specific string by using quotation marks in a query. Or, by using the "AND" operator, you can find articles satisfying two or more criteria. Other query capabilities include:
- Boolean operators include AND, OR, NOT, and NEAR
- Topics satisfying a query are listed in order of number of hits, but you can re-sort the list by book or topic with a single mouse click
- Exact phrase searches
- Wildcard searches
- Titles-only or titles-and-text searches
- Save and reuse customized queries
