Software Assistance & Education Center

The Software Assistance & Education Center (SAEC) is a service jointly provided by 4Help/University Computing Support and Information Technology Acquisitions. Its mission is to provide students, faculty, and staff with software installation assistance as well as providing regularly-scheduled tutorial help sessions on common issues such as data backup, system reformatting, virus removal, and wireless network configuration.

Some examples of issues for which we can provide assistance are:

  • Installing software obtained from Software Distribution
  • Installing Windows on Apple computers (Boot Camp, Parallels, Fusion)
  • Answering questions about computers and computing resources (MyVT, VT Mail, Scholar, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting and configuring wireless connections
  • Installing and configuring anti-virus and anti-spyware software
  • Preventing recurrence of problems through education

Important: When you visit the SEAC, be sure to bring:

  • An external hard drive with all your backed up data
  • Your original software and operating system installation discs
  • Your power cord
