Hokies Domain (Active Directory)

Virginia Tech's central Windows 2003 Active Directory domain is named Hokies. The centralized domain structure allows a tremendous amount of flexibility in the security and administration of Windows-based university computing resources. The Windows 2003 at Virginia Tech Web site documents the advantages of this domain system and provides information about joining.

Central Services Domain Centrally managed Hokies child domain for departments. University Services Domain Centrally managed Hokies child domain for individuals whose departments are not in the Central Services domain.

Windows 2003 Pilot Active Directory Testing Environment

The Windows 2003 pilot Active Directory (w2k-pilot) is maintained by the Microsoft Implementation Group (MIG) for use by faculty and staff for testing clients, servers, and applications in a non-production environment. The w2k-pilot domain has all the features and functionality of the production Active Directory (Hokies), but without the same user data.
