TSM displays your fields and directories using icons and windows.  TSM windows provide an easy-to use X Window System graphical user interface (GUI). This section shows you how to use TSM windows.

 

 

Restoring a File

The TSM Restore window displays the index entries TSM creates when it backs up the data on your system.

The Quick tour takes you though the following steps to practice recovering a file:

Opening the TSM Restore window

Browsing the files contained in an index

Marking the files you want to restore

Starting a restore

 

Click on the TSM Backup Client icon on your desktop to open the main TSM window.

 

Window Components

The following graphics show the main TSM window:

Click on the Restore button.

 

The following graphic shows the TSM Restore window and its index entries.

 Mark the file you want to restore.

Click the Restore button.

Select the destination for the restored file if you don’t want the original location:

Click the Restore button.

           

Restoring a folder

To restore a folder and all its files, mark just the folder.  All the files and subfolders inside the folder will also be marked automatically:

 

 

Restoring inactive files

Active files are files that still reside on disks.

Inactive files are files that have been deleted by the users and are kept on tapes for 90 days.

By default, only active files are shown in the restore window.  To show active and inactive files, select Display active/inactive files under the View menu bar.

Files with a green diamond are inactive files.
