SAS at Virginia Tech

The SAS System is a computer software package used for data management and analysis.  It is currently available to Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff for installation on personal and departmental computers under terms of annually renewable licenses from the SAS Institute.  The following versions are currently available at Virginia Tech:

  • Windows: SAS versions 9.1.3 and 8.2 are available.
  • MAC OS: The SAS Institute is no longer updating SAS for the Macintosh environment. The most current release available is 6.12.
  • Unix: SAS version 8.2 for Solaris and AIX is available.

System Requirements

The system requirements for SAS depend upon your operating system and the release of SAS you are running. For updated information for a variety of platforms, refer to SAS's Administrator Documentation page (http://support.sas.com/documentation/installcenter/admindoc.html) or the SAS 9.1.3 Installation Instructions page (http://www.sas.cc.vt.edu/faqlib/SAS_Install.htm).

Availability on Servers and in Computer Labs

SAS is also available for use on VTAIX, to faculty and graduate students for research applications on the central compute server Dante, and in the computing labs in Torgerson Hall:
